General Tips for Newcomers
- Never send money to someone you haven't met in person, especially via wire transfer, cryptocurrency, or gift cards.
- Government agencies will never ask for payment by gift card, Bitcoin, or money transfer services.
- Be cautious of unsolicited calls, emails, or texts claiming to be from the government — verify by calling the official number.
- Never share your SIN, banking details, or passwords over the phone or by email unless you initiated the contact.
- If a deal seems too good to be true — whether a job, rental, or service — it probably is. Research before committing.
- Use the CICC online registry to verify any immigration consultant before hiring them.
