Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)
A GIC is a common way international students prove required living-cost funds for a study permit, by depositing money with a participating bank that releases it in instalments after arrival.
From Sept 1, 2026, a single applicant must show $23,448 CAD living funds (plus first-year tuition), +$6,318 per extra family member. Banks like Scotiabank, CIBC, BMO offer GICs; bank statements are an accepted alternative.
