Maintained Status (Implied Status)
Maintained status (formerly implied status) lets a temporary resident keep working/studying under their expiring permit's conditions while IRCC processes an extension filed before expiry.
Leaving Canada while on maintained status ends it — the holder can't return until a new permit issues, so avoid international travel while awaiting a decision. Applying after expiry forfeits maintained status, though restoration may still be possible within 90 days.
