Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)
The CRS is the points-based system, scored out of 1,200, that IRCC uses to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool and decide who receives an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
The Comprehensive Ranking System scores each Express Entry candidate across four areas: core/human capital factors (age, education, language, Canadian work experience — up to 500 points single or 460 with spouse), spouse factors (up to 40), skill transferability (up to 100), and additional points (up to 600, mainly a provincial nomination). Example: a single 28-year-old with a bachelor's degree, CLB 9 English, no Canadian work scores 110+120+124+0 = 354 from core factors alone. A provincial nomination (+600) would make an ITA all but guaranteed. A job offer no longer adds points (removed March 25, 2025).
