Express Entry

Express Entry is the online system IRCC uses to manage permanent residence applications for three federal economic programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.

Candidates create an online Express Entry profile, receive a CRS score, and enter a pool where IRCC periodically holds 'rounds of invitations' — inviting the highest-ranked candidates (or those matching a specific category) to apply for permanent residence. A profile is valid for one year. Provincial Nominee Program nominations and category-based draws (e.g. French language, healthcare, trades) also run through the Express Entry system, each adding or targeting different CRS thresholds.
